Olney High School Photography Field Trip at Reading Terminal Market

Digital Media students from Olney High School had a field trip at Reading Terminal Market where Robb Lim owner of RL STUDIOS and Occupational Advising Committee member to the Olney Digital Media Program) challenged students to capture the Market using disposable cameras from Photo Lounge. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Disposable cameras were chosen to give students their first experience with film photography: “I love how raw and straight forward point and shoot film photography is. Right now everything we want is on demand... utilizing film challenges our students to be patient for their shot and make each one count (since they are limited to 34 photos). I wanted to give them that memory of receiving scans from a roll. It always feels like Christmas morning since you don’t know how your photos are going to turn out!” - Robb Lim⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Brianna Belo from RTM led discussions with selected merchants so students could learn more about the family story behind the product. RTM Merchants shared knowledge on how to leverage digital storytelling to sell their products and explained what it takes to run a small business. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As one of the nation’s oldest public markets, RTM remains a beloved site of living heritage in Philadelphia. There are countless stories to be captured here. Olney’s students immersed themselves in the Market’s sights, sounds, smells, and flavors during their Digital Studies visit. We hope the Market continues to inspire current and future creatives for generations to come!⁣⁣
